Background informations about Star Wars Action Figures

How it all begann

Star Wars began with a 14-page exposé of a space adventure movie which George Lucas drafted until the summer of 1973, and was inspired by numerous myths and classic stories. With this final draft applied Lucas at numerous film studios.

George Lucas brought Star Wars to Universal and United Artists. The draft was vague, imprecise and difficult to understand. Both studios were not interested in the project. Finally, Lucas, Star Wars, presented Alan Ladd Jr., the new creative director for 20th Century Fox. With respect to Lucas' past performances with American Graffiti and THX 1138 recognized the potential of the filmmaker Ladd, though not necessarily in the project. So Lucas was given a provisional agreement in May 1974 and began to develop his design and write your first screenplay.

Influences on the Story and the Star Wars Action Figures / Star Wars Toys

The Star Wars films are many different underlying factors. Lucas confirmed that some storylines and characters are due to The Hidden Fortress (1958, Japan) by Akira Kurosawa. The film has brought him to tell the story from the perspective of simple droid and less from that of a more important character. Kurosawa's film also influenced the design of the Star Wars villain Darth Vader, whose striking black helmet a Japanese Kabuto was imitated. The helmet of the arch-villain in Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai also bears a remarkable resemblance to Vader's helmet. The Jedi, a sort of a knighthood earlier Republic, reminiscent of the samurai as a spiritual warrior and principals with a strong sense of honor and duty. The clothing of the Jedi is similar to the kimono, and even the dress of the men of the Berber people.

Before he wrote the original Star Wars, George Lucas originally wanted a film to the Flash Gordon comic strip. The rights, however, had the producer Dino De Laurentiis. Thus, Lucas decided to launch his own science fiction project to get under way.

Another influence on Lucas' creation process were the work of Professor Joseph Campbell, who explored the common meanings, structures and purposes of myths from around the world. Lucas stated that they are intentionally lean on Campbell's work. The original Star Wars film as closely followed the archetypal pattern "The Hero's Journey" as described in Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces. This influence was by Bill Moyers and Campbell in the PBS mini-series The Power of Myth [1] discussed later, Lucas and Moyers in the 1999 program at Mythology of Star Wars with George Lucas & Bill Moyers [2]. In addition, the National Air and Space Museum sponsored "during the late 1990s, the exhibition Star Wars: The Magic of Myth, showing how Campbell's work shaped the Star Wars films and influenced [3]. A companion guide with the same title followed in 1997.

In dispute is whether the Star Wars universe of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series is inspired by the early 1950s. There is a faint galactic empire. The fully urbanized planet Coruscant in Star Wars is the seat of government of the galaxy similar to the planet Trantor in Asimov. Is a protagonist of Foundation and Empire Lethan Devers, a character reminiscent of much of the smuggler Han Solo from Star Wars.

Many elements from Frank Herbert's science fiction novel Dune (Dune Sheet) are also seen in Star Wars. Also Tatooine is a desert planet. In both stories there is a mystical knighthood. The hero in both actions is a redeemer who has mystical powers that can influence thoughts and fights with a sword weapons. Both stories describe a corrupt empire and the attempts of the hero, put on the other hand to fight back. Both in the desert planet in Star Wars the Empire as the hero is superior technologically and numerically. In the end, the rebels win and win against the hated empire. In both stories, this is done by the fall of each emperor.

Some comic book fans also discovered parallels between the Star Wars epic, and Jack Kirby's New Gods series, published by DC Comics. DC gave the series because of sluggish sales. In essence, they act from the very struggle between the hero and his father Orion Darkseid (: dark side;) dark side. Orion is based on a mystical power, known as "the source" (Eng. "The Source"), which makes him in his battle counsel. The "Death Star" from Star Wars recalls Darkseid Apokalips home planet. Is also worth mentioning that Darth Vader some superficial similarities to Kirby's chief villains Doctor Doom, "has from the Marvel comics of the publisher.

Anakin Skywalker is one of the ancient prophecy foretold, is to bring the balance of power and whose mother brought him without the help of a man in the world. This motif is strongly reminiscent of the incarnation of God in Christianity. Jesus, the Christian interpretation of the Old Testament followed, then announced as early as the messiah. In Luke and Matthew, he will be born of Mary, without having previously identified her fiance Joseph had ".

After Anakin Skywalker is the path of the good leaving transforms into Darth Vader and many years spent working with the diabolical Emperor, he decides to return for good and kill his own fate as besiegelnd, his evil master. He fulfilled the prophecy and ultimately bring the balance of power. But Anakin did not remain in death, but gained (but only after his old master Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda) into and through the power of immortality. Here you'll find in a somewhat modified form of the Christian story of salvation again: Jesus Christ sacrificed himself to man, as he died on the cross. Thus, he sort of acts to obtain ransom for all men, must not remain in death and sin, but eternal life in God's kingdom. Jesus himself will be resurrected on the third day by his father from the dead and is the firstborn of the new creation. A further parallel to the New Testament is the aforementioned figure of the emperor. He embodies the absolute evil and can thus be seen as a symbol of the devil. Specifically, this can be in a scene in Episode VI, tie, is shown in which, as the emperor wants to move Luke to the dark side of power. Here one is reminded of the Jesus fasting in the desert, which is seeking to seduce the devil, giving him the kingdom of his (Jesus) promises his father. But resist both Luke Skywalker in the Death Star, as Jesus in the wilderness of temptation.

The design of some robots, especially that of General Grievous in Episode III, based on the pre-World War created works by Jacob Epstein The Rock Drill. The Star Wars saga also availed himself of certain historical events. George Lucas claimed that he had inspired in particular the Second World War and the Vietnam War. Lucas tended to the space battles for his first Star Wars film and the air battles of World War II. The same was true of The Empire Strikes Back, which were imitated in the invasion of the planet Hoth by the Imperial Army models from the grave war.
